Let me introduce myself. I am Lori Collette, a recovering executive who upon leaving Corporate America has spent the past 7 years being the best wife and mom I know how to be. Along side my husband, Daryl, I do my best to help with our family businesses while consulting for several other small businesses.
I spent my professional career working in many different industries. I think that is why I love accounting. Everyone needs it. I picked my college major in ninth grade. Not because I loved accounting, more so, according to the career book we were given, I could make as much money as a doctor and not have to go to med school. Yep, I am an overachiever! Plus, I found something in the A's so why go through the rest of the book. My mom worked for an accounting firm, so I thought I knew what I was getting into.
Fast forward, in November 1992 I graduated with a BS Major in Accounting and Minor in Aviation Management.
The one industry I have not played in is Aviation. I have done non-profit NGO, publishing & trade shows, manufacturing, construction, automotive. I have a checked path, which has given me an opportunity to learn at every corner.
Today, I am a business partner with my husband and his two businesses, while consulting for a couple other small businesses.
What I see over and over again, business owners who start something for their families to provide a better life, a life style. Instead the business becomes their life.
There are so many things I have learned during my many years of working, I want to share my knowledge with you. I am a student and teacher at heart. What I know, I want you to know.
What I have learned... is you do not know what you do not know. What I do know is a lot of small businesses need help with the basics.
